For Learner Drivers

Getting your licence is an exciting step toward independence, but it can also feel a bit overwhelming at first.

At Learners Nexus, we make the process simple, clear, and structured, and this page will guide you through every stage of learning to drive in South Australia.

Getting Your L’s

Learn how to get your Learner’s Permit in South Australia.

Before you can start learning to drive, you’ll need your learner’s permit. In SA, this means passing the Learner Theory Test on road rules and safe driving.

Getting your Learner's Permit has never been easier and you can start the process as early as 3 months before your 16th Birthday. That's right - you can start the process at age 15 years and 9 months.

Driving Lessons

Wondering if you really need lessons?

Here’s how they can help.

Professional lessons aren’t just about passing the test - they build confidence, consistency, and safe driving habits from day one.

An instructor can spot things parents or friends might miss, teach techniques that align with the VORT assessment, and make sure you’re ready for any road situation.

Even a few structured lessons can make a big difference to your progress.

Seasoned drivers will admit that they have probably picked up some bad habbits in their years of driving. Working with a Driving Instructor ensures you're off to the right start, early in your driving career.

Learner drivers from other countries, or people returning to driving will also benifit from some structured lessons with a qualified driving instructor.

The VORT

Passing the Vehicle On Road Test (VORT).

The VORT is the final step before you can drive solo. It’s a practical driving test that checks five key manoeuvres and your overall safety on the road.

During your lessons, we’ll prepare you for exactly what the examiner looks for, from observation and control, to calm decision-making in traffic.

It's also extremely important to learn the correct 'system of car control' that the VORT examiners look for, so you can pass your test with the least amount of stress possible.

When the day comes, you’ll know exactly what to expect and how to perform at your best.
